Advice about visiting with a cold

Hello,

My father in law is currently having palliative chemo. We are due to go and see him today but myself and my 3 year old both have colds and my little one also has conjunctivitis.

He would still like us to go and visit but i am concerned, we will make him sick and delay treatment.

Do you think he will be safe if we still go but avoid hugging/kissing?

Thank you

  • Welcome to the forum GIGI1510 although I'm sorry to hear about your father in law.

Having chemotherapy can weaken the immune system which can increase the chances of picking up an infection, so if you and your little one both have colds it would be best not to see your father in law until the both of you have recovered, but if you did visit and are worried about the impact this may have, do feel free to give one of our cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They are very insightful and will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

    Kind regards,
