Caring for 86 yr old dad

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, and have been looking after my dad who has terminal oesophageal cancer and vascular Parkinson's. I'm finding his care far more challenging than I had anticipated. At the moment, alongside dad's exhaustion he's experiencing confusion and hallucinations, which can be distressing for him. He's also waking 4 or 5 times a night, so I am also exhausted, and getting through the day can be tough. I'm sure I'm not alone in experience these challenges, but was wondering how others cope on a daily basis.

Love to you all.. ️

  • A warm welcome to Cancer Chat, redrobin947.

Caring for a loved one with terminal cancer and Parkinson's can indeed be incredibly challenging, both physically and emotionally. It's understandable that you're feeling exhausted and overwhelmed.

You're definitely not alone in facing these challenges. Many caregivers navigate similar situations, and finding support from others who understand can be incredibly helpful so I'm glad you decided to join as you'll surely encounter others here who can relate to what you're going through at the moment. Also, we have a page that is called Family, friends and caregivers which might help if you care to have a read.

Take care, and I hope you find the support and resources you need during this challenging time.

    All the best,
