Waiting for results

My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer and within a couple of months it seems her life has been turned upside down. At first we were told it was ‘curable’, there was some complications due to her first procedure leading to a delay on her op. The consultant has now advised the cancer is bigger than expected and there is more. Had CT scan, two weeks to wait for the results to find out if she has secondary breast cancer. The thought of it seems unbearable. I’m managing to keep it together for her but struggling with how best to support her and trying to remain positive but have those difficult ‘just incase chats’..

  • Hello Danielle

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis and that things haven't been as straightforward as you might have hoped. It's understandable that you're feeling worried whilst waiting for the results of her most recent scan.

We know that for many people this period of waiting and uncertainty can be really difficult and, understandably, you feel you may be struggling. It often can help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you might find it helpful to speak with one of our nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information, and support they can. They may also be able to help you think about some of the questions that you or your Mum might want to ask at her next appointment. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope you have some reassuring news soon Danielle. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Dannielle,

A very war welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear of your mum's situation. Waiting for results is always a worrying time and you will both feel better once you know exactly what you are dealing with. How is your mum coping so far?

My mum had primary breast cancer for 12 years. It then spread to her liver, lungs, brain and bones. I know how hard this is for both of you and I am always here if you want to chat.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
