Mum kind of diagnosed today!

Hi everyone,

I'm rather confused, we saw the consultant today for PET scan results about a 9mm upper left lobe lung nodule in June (after several pulmonary embolisms).

Sadly, it has grown a little so they have offered radiotherapy or the preferred treatment a lobectomy by keyhole. (Lobectomy decided upon by us at recommendation).

The consultant said they won't be sure if it's cancer until they can test it after removal, but mentioned 66% likelihood and then she said she thinks it's very likely to be cancer.

The PET scan didn't show anything conclusive and no metastases. Mum is 71 and an x smoker of many years.

Does my mum have cancer? (I lost my Daddy to cancer a few years ago and my little cat on Sunday) Devastated.

Thankyou x

  • I'm sorry to hear about your mum, your dad and your cat Peppa14.

From what you've been told it sounds like it may be a possibility, but until the surgery and relevant tests have been carried out no-one can say for sure.

I know this must be a very stressful and worrying time but we are here for you, and hopefully you will receive some support and advice from some of our members soon.

Also, if you or your mum would like to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, you can do so on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to help.

We're thinking of you Peppa14 and wishing your mum all the best with her lobectomy.

    Kind regards,
