My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 rectal cancer which is also in the right lobe of liver

I'm worried that the chemo regime they are putting him on is to aggressive for him to cope with but not aggressive enough to work.

They have said unless they can reduce the secondary mets in the liver the only option will be palliative.

He's 41, we have 3 children. I'm terrified

  • Hi Nik1979

Your post resonated with me as my husband has just been diagnosed with primary bowel and secondary liver cancer and we have 2 children. Ours are 2 (nearly 3) and 8.

I would love to chat to you and maybe support each other through these awful times. We have our 1st oncology appointment on Tuesday where we will find out treatment plans, prognosis etc but palliative care has already been mentioned. Life is cruel, especially when so young and when children are involved.

  • Hi,

I'm so sorry to hear you are also going through this. We have had the Oncology appointment now, radiotherapy has been booked and a gruelling chemo regime has been set.

The chemo is the last chance to try and contain the liver metastases,  they have said that if it gets worse then they won't operate.

Currently the whole right lobe of the liver is affected.

What hospital are you being seen at?

It would be really helpful/nice to be able to talk to someone who is going through this as well. It's nice having family and friends but sometimes they just don't really understand xx

  • My husband is being treated in a hospital in Bristol, how about yours?

After suffering 2 strokes and 2 heart attacks he is whiped out already, sleeps most of the time. Are your children of school age? It's hard work being the only well parent isn't it. When was your husband diagnosed? Much love x
