Advanced statement

Hi my OHjust diagnosed with colorectal cancer; they already have late stage MS and epilepsy and have DNR and advanced statement detailing no further intervention only pain relief. I totally agree and understand there wishes but I’m also scared about how things will progress with tumour blocking colon etc what to expect etc the ms is very bad, no speech,no mobility, can’t feed themselves we have to do all personal care etc they can’t explain when they are in pain. Sorry for the jumble up just need to voice concerns, macmillan due to visit next week

  • Hello Ness61

I'm sorry to hear about your partner's diagnosis. It's obviously a difficult time for you all.

It's good to hear that Macmillan is due to visit next week. I'd encourage you to be very open and honest with them about your situation and the concerns that you have particularly around pain management. Hopefully, they will be able to give you some reassurance. You might find it helpful to write down a list of the questions and queries you have so that you don't miss anything on the day.

We have a team of nurses here at Cancer Research UK that you can call to talk with if you think that may be helpful ahead of your appointment with the Macmillan team next week. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Ness61 and let us know how you're managing. We'll do our best to listen and offer any support we can.

    Best wishes,
