My story - mam has been diagnosed with secondary bone and liver cancer

My mam has just been diagnosed with secondary bone and liver cancer via CT scan with contrast ?? Primary unknown ?? My mam has been in agony for several months and it was put down to arthritis this news has come as a big shock any advice be kindly accepted ️ ️

  • I am so sorry! It is going to take a while for this to sink in, please give yourself time, talk to Macmillan and/ or the team caring for your Mum and ask any questions about treatment/symptom control/emotional support etc for you as well as your Mum. I note on another thread that your Mum is going to be nursed at home and carers will be coming in, That is good as  my second piece of advice would have been  to make sure that your Mum has the support/ equipment needed in place before she comes home

And lastly, there are conversations you will need to have with your Mum, not just about her wishes at this time but chances to tell her and to hear, things that we sometimes regret not having heard/ said.

  • Hello thanks for the reply, my mam is due home on Thursday everything is put in place am just confused she has been told carers 4 x a day , when my uncle had cancer years ago he had Macmillan nurses does mam need them aswell?? Just can’t get my head around things atm I think my emotions have turned to denial as she had no biopsy am praying it’s all wrong (although I know deep down it’s not )! Making sure I tell her constantly how loved she is xx
