Lung Cancer and likely progressive Pancreatic Malignancy

Hi there,

My Dad has moved in with me from Hospital following jaundice.  He has had previous cancer right lung, currently cancer left lung and now papers say likely progressive pancreatic malignancy.  Dad is Palliative.

Dad has moved region to be with me, therefore we are waiting for local Doctors and then Hospice, who will take upon Doctor referral. I guess my main worry is getting a care package in place as soon as possible - as I have no idea how long (he is 89 by they way) we are looking at, but it feels like weeks rather than months.

The Doctors tell me for Dad to be registered its approx 10 days, which seems along time at the moment, then I wonder how quickly for Hospice to assess.

Everything is happening so quickly.

Thank you for reading.

  • Hello and welcome to our forum, Bel.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad's situation. It's understandable that you're feeling overwhelmed given how things are moving.

Navigating the healthcare system, especially in such urgent situations, can indeed be a complex and time-consuming process. While waiting for the formalities to be completed, consider reaching out to local support services that might be able to offer assistance. Sometimes, they can provide guidance on care resources, support for caregivers, and offer valuable information during this waiting period. With this in mind, there's a page from our website called Family, friends and caregivers I wanted to share with you which address how to support someone with cancer and how to take care of yourself. I hope this helps a little.

Wishing you and your dad strength during this challenging time.
