Devastated

Hi

It has taken me a lot to write this

My daughter is 34 with three young children and has been diagnosed with secondary liver cancer from an unknown source.. the liver biopsy indicated upper GI cells but they are not sure .  She has a lump in her chest three years ago that they thought was cancer but because it shrunk they said it was hormonal so I'm wondering if this has stemmed from that thou they are being very evasive with ant answers when we have asked .

I've googled and it looks grim as it says as it's unknown it will be difficult to treat as they will have to guess the chemo type she receives . I'm so devastated I don't know what to do..has anyone had anything like this. Help me feel better please.

Thank you .

  • Hi Laura,

I am so sorry to hear that things have been so bad for both yourself and your daughter. Having all of these additional scans is always a worry, but just remember that it doesn't mean that her condition is any worse. They are just struggling to find the primary source, which can often be difficult to trace. I know that it feels as if all these tests are taking forever, but it will be worth it if they can trace the primary. The wait shouldn't prejudice her chances, but give her a better chance if they can target the cancer with the right chemo.

I hope that they can find some answers from the MRI on Sunday. They may be going to do a slightly different MRI, possibly with contrast dye, which might give clearer images.

I am thinking of you both and hoping that you feel a little better soon.

    Regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

    I hope you are well.

Thank you for your reply I always feel.so much better when I write to you and u are always so helpful.and so loveky with your replies .

We had some more news about Emma today they said that they may have found the primary and that it may have started in the binary liver ducts...I think that's what they said...they are having to.do another biopsy as they have run out of cells to test..they are also doing a scan on her shoulder in case it started there as this areas showed up on her PET scan . .  They did another scan last Sunday and they said the mass has grown slightly but not exploded ...

She has been pulled thru the mill and has been so brave and at that same time running a home and looking after her three children.. I feel.so helpless ATM with my fractured leg and not being able to do anything.

I feel a little better today and so does she

    Kind regards

    .Laura xxxx

  • HI Laura,

This news sounds more reassuring. I do hope that this is the primary source and then they can then start to treat Emma. She must be finding all these tests so hard, when she's not been getting the answers, that they're looking for. I shall say a little prayer tonight that they have finally traced the primary.

I am sure that Emma understands your situation, Do you have any other family or friends, who can help out in the meantime?  It's probably when she is having treatment, that she will most need your help and hopefully you'll be on the road to recovery by then. How is your leg feeling now?

I am glad to hear that you both feel a little better today, and I hope that more good news will follow.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello Laura, your post has really touched me as my sister of a similar age with young children also has billary duct cancer which has spread. She was diagnosed last summer and underwent 6 months of chemo which she coped with really well, mainly due to healthy living, good diet and certain supplements who were recommended by a cancer nutritionist. She is the picture of health and living life to the full whilst never giving up hope for a long life.
This positivity helps us all appreciate life, love and each other.
Do what you can to look after your own health and well being which will help you to be strong for your daughter. Do you have any close friends or local cancer charities that support carers/family?
    Take care, xx

  • Hi JcJl thank you so much for your message its made me feel very positive.

I'm so glad your sisters chemo went well and she is doing well ..

My daughter has a wonderful oncologist and is on her third round of chemo and immunotherapy. She feels unwell after treatment but keeps going bless her ..it's so hard for her trying to bring up her three children. I help where I can but I work full time which makes it hard

I pray every day that the treatment will shrink the chemo.

Please do keep in touch and let me know how your sister is doing ..take care ...Laura xxx

  • Hi Laura,

I hope you are keeping well. How are things with your daughter? I hope she’s managing to keep well during her chemo. My sister felt better for eating well but simple foods, nothing too rich, she also went out for daily walks, the fresh air and being in nature helped .
She’s now finished her 6 months of chemo and is having a 6 week break before immunotherapy. She’s using this time to really take care of herself and live life to the full, she has complementary therapies and eats a healthy diet as well as gentle exercise such as walking and yoga.
I wondered if your daughter has had molecular profiling which can identify the specific mutations to prescribe a targeted therapy?
Make sure you take time out for yourself to keep you well, take care, JC xx
