Family member pancreatic cancer returned and has spread to liver

Hi all, recently found out a family member's cancer has returned and spread to liver. This is a complete 180 as they had surgery last year to remove the tumour, spleen and the tail of the pancreas, they then had 12 course treatment of chemo. All seemed positive, up until they went to get checked/signed off by consultant only to find out it had come back. They'll now have to get chemo to keep it at bay. Just wondering if anyone has or knows of anyone that's had any positive outcomes as in they managed to live a few more years or so and responded well to chemo. All I'm seeing everywhere is that people have passed away within a year or so it would be nice to hear some good outcomes for a change! Thankyou

I'm so sorry to hear that your family member has recently been told that the cancer has returned and this time has spread to the liver. Understandably this is very difficult news for you all to hear.

It's good to hear that the Consultant has been able to offer some treatment options to your relative and hopefully they will respond well to the chemotherapy.

We know that many people turn to the internet searching for information at times like this. Unfortunately a lot of what you can read online is aimed at the spectacular or worst-case scenarios and instead, this leaves people feeling even more anxious and concerned. Try to avoid searching for answers online and be guided by your relative's Consultant as they will be best placed to answer questions.

If you'd like to talk the situation through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I send our best wishes to your relative for their upcoming treatment.
