Should we tell Dad

Briefly my Dad was in hospital with pneumonia, on discharge we were told ‘nonchalantly’ that his cleared colon cancer of 10 years ago had returned and had spread to his lungs. That is something we will deal with when we can but basically Dad is unaware of this diagnosis and we have an appointment soon to discuss PET scan results and we’re not sure if we should keep it from him as we feel it wouldn’t benefit him and possibly make things worse. Can anybody help us with what would be the best thing to do? I’m beside myself trying to figure out what is best.

  • Hi I know you're asking for advice about your awful predicament and I'm sorry about your situation for your Dad and the rest of the family ,what I would say is you know your Dad better than anyone ,if it was me I wouldn't tell him unless he asked the question as you say it wouldn't benefit him and to be fair I wouldn't want to know I hope you get through this as well as possible as a family ,I'm sure others will give their advice once they read your post x
