Advice needed

Firstly I apologise for the question as I have not been diagnosed with cancer but could really do with advice from anyone suffering from this horrible disease and secondly Ito say how sorry I am to those who are  as i can do nothing but pray for you and your recovery which I will do.

my question really is should I be worried and how long did it take for your diagnosis?

my story is that I had weight loss surgery back in 2021 so coming up for two years (feb24).  When I started to get what I thought was  gall bladder pain about five months ago, I waited to see if it would go, anyway it didn’t so I contacted my gp beginning of September.  She did blood tests and said my liver enzymes were too high as was my b12 and  sent me for an ultrasound that showed healthy liver, pancreas and gall bladder with no stones.  She then referred me to a consultant specialist in gal bladder issues through my Bupa.

More bloods and enzymes still elevated but had dropped a bit but still having painful attacks whenever I eat too much fat.  Consultant sends me for an mri and that also comes back clear but showed that the ampulla is somewhat wider than it should be and therefore sending me for a ct scan (tomorrow).  I have done some research and it appears to me that this is quite serious but I have been waiting a week between each appointment which is now about 5-6 weeks and no firm diagnosis.  This is due to the radiology department taking their time.  Results for blood tests take 10 days even tho nhs is next day.  I don’t have jaundice so should I be worried?  I am terrified that this is being just left for longer and longer and that I might end up in A and E.  the waiting is causing me such anxiety.  Please has anybody had a similar story and should I be worried about how long it is taking.  Any advice would be hugely appreciated.  Many thanks and assuring you of my prayers and best wishes.

  • Hello ChattyCathy

I'm sorry to hear about the ongoing health problems that you've had over the past few months. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about things.

We know that for many people this period of testing and waiting for results can be difficult. Hopefully, the CT scan that you had earlier this week will give the specialist the information they need to make a diagnosis.

Many people find it helpful to chat things through with someone whilst they are waiting for a diagnosis. I wonder if you might find it beneficial to chat with one of our nurses about your concerns. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 and I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support they can ahead of your next appointment.

Do keep in touch Cathy and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
