Bowel, liver and lung cancer stage 4

My brother in law has had a diagnosis of stage 4 bowel, liver and lung cancer. He's constantly tired, barely eating compared to how he did. Insists he has no pain and refuses medical help. He is disabled and we are trying to care for him. But he insists he's okay. Even though he's becoming incontinent and has developed jaundice. We haven't broken the news to him as he's recently lost his mum to cancer and that's why he's with us now. But we're worried about him and think he should have some medical intervention. But we're scared that if he sees a doctor they might recommend he goes to hospital and may not come out. Anyone else been in this position. We don't want to force him, but are we just putting off the inevitable. He's 53 and mentally disabled with epilepsy as well.

  • Hi jdmc74,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. This sounds like a really tough situation and I can understand it must be difficult to know what to do.

It sounds like you may need some support in caring for him, if not now then soon. So that may play a necessary part in seeking some medical help. It may also help to ease some discomfort for him.

However I appreciate this is all complex and that there are a few things to weigh up.

I hope you're able to come to a decision about this soon - and also that this forum is helpful for you along the way. Hopefully you'll get some more replies here soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
