Advanced Stomach Cancer

Hi Everyone,

My father in law was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer which has spread to the peritoneum. He has been given 3-6 months and was diagnosed in 4th August.

we are so worried because I lost my mum to stomach cancer in 2017 and from diagnosis she only lived 12 weeks.

My father in law is rapidly losing weight and can’t eat and sleeping more. My husband is worried that he’s not got much longer but I don’t think we are ‘there’ yet.

Tbh I don’t even know what I am asking here, I just feel a bit lost.

Anyone had a similar experience?

sending love to anyone who needs it

  • Hello Kirsty

I'm sorry to hear about your father-in-law's diagnosis. It's understandably a difficult time for you all, particularly as you have been through the experience of your Mum having the same diagnosis.

It's natural that you will be experiencing a whole range of emotions now as your father-in-law's health declines. I hope that you are all able to lean on each other for support and that there is care in place to make sure your father-in-law is kept comfortable.

If it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses at any point, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Keep posting here on the forum if it helps to have somewhere to put things down in writing as well Kirsty. We're here to listen and support.

Sending you all my best wishes,
    Jenn
