Cancer Unknown Primary

Hi everyone,

My dad has just been diagnosed with cancer Unknown primary, the cancer has been confirmed in his stomach lymphnode and they also think it is in some of his other lymphnodes following a PET scan. They want to treat with Chemotherapy but unfortunately he is recovering from a hepatitis E infection so his liver is not well enough yet. I don't know much about cancer of unknown primary, and his doctors have not discussed staging or prognosis.

Its hard knowing how to feel at the moment as we are in a watching and waiting situation to see how the cancer progresses. Does anyone know anything about CUP? Or reasoning behind why they can't find the primary? I am trying to stay positive but it's hard when the doctors aren't acting at the moment due to concerns with the liver.

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's recent diagnosis. The frustration and worry that can come when the medical team is unable to find the primary cancer isn't uncommon and I know we've had members post here in the past who have struggled with the uncertainty.

We do have some information on our website about cancer of unknown primary that will hopefully answer some of your questions. I'd also suggest giving our team of nurses a call to chat things through with them. I know they will be happy to talk with you and offer any advice, information, and support they can.

Hopefully your Dad's liver function will improve and this will mean the team is able to look at offering him some treatment options.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you both are.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
