Fluid in the lungs and abdomen 1 year after whipple surgery

Hi, my father underwent a whipple operation in April 2022. He has had a very hard recovery and was too unwell to have chemo or radio. In the last 2 months he has started swelling excessively and found out on Friday that the fluid is in his lung now as well as abdomen and legs. Just wondering if anyone has had something similar? He had a CT scan on Tuesday to see what’s going on but obviously we are all jumping to the conclusion that his cancer has more than likely spread as he couldn’t have chemo. Thank you so much in advance for any responses.

  • Hello Cllg2611

I'm sorry to hear that your Father is experiencing some health problems at the moment and that he's now waiting for the results of a CT scan. It's understandable that you're feeling worried about what may be causing his symptoms. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for news and the team will be able to put a plan in place to improve things for him.

In the meantime, if you want to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
