Mum given 1-2 months

Hi,

On Friday last week we were given be news that my wonderful, beautiful Mum only has 1-2 months left. She had breast cancer a decade ago, it metastasised in to her bones, found 3 years ago and has progressed in to her organs and essentially has grown exponentially in her liver and she is now in liver failure. Obviously we are bereft. But I wonder if anyone knows what I should expect going forward. She is very tired and sleeping a lot. Also started retaining fluid in her feet and abdomen. No signs of jaundice yet. I just feel very lost.

  • Hi Laura

I am sorry to hear about your mum and I hope you have the Macmillan nurses involved in your mums care if she is not in hospital .
I recently lost my own husband after a three month from diagnoses to passing with gastric cancer , I relate to you saying your mum has swelling in the feet and tummy as this also happened with my husband , he did have fluid removed from the tummy to ease the discomfort and then he came home and has a driver fitted for the pain with the Macmillan nurses visiting each day , he only lasted exactly a week which was hard for me and our children but he wasn't in any pain and as he wasn't going to get better it was a merciful release, I hope you have family close by to help, I am still in the deep grieve stage myself maybe it's because my husband showed no symptoms of cancer until January when he had stomach ache and was diagnosed with stage 4 gastric cancer in the middle of feb and died the end of March , we have all been in shock, your mums journey with cancer has been longer and it must have been worrying waiting to see if the cancer may come back , get as much help as you can and I hope your mum passes peacefully that's the only thing I console myself with xx
