Post chemo sickness constantly

Hi - my husband has had 5 sessions of chemo and is now on a pre-surgery break. He is having great difficulty keeping or putting on weight and is suffering from constant feelings of sickness. He has been given Loperamide for diarrhea and this works but he also has been taking Metoclopromide for nausea which is having such bad side effects that he feels constantly sick and exhausted and is unable to eat anything but the smallest meals. Any ideas?

  • Hello Alisiri

I'm sorry to hear that your husband is struggling with nausea at the moment. I know how debilitating this can be and it's understandable that you want him to be as well as possible ahead of his surgery.

Please speak to his specialist nurse if he has one or get in touch with the Consultant's secretary to raise your concerns. It may be that they want to change his medication or arrange for the dietician to offer some support as well.

The important thing is that you reach out for some clinical support so that they can try and help these symptoms to be managed more successfully.

I hope that things improve soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Get professional help - nausea relief can be hard to get right.

I initially thought feeling and being sick constantly was an inevitable side effect - it isn't.

Eating helps too - even if that means experimenting to find out what you can keep down or even liquidising everything.

    Good luck!
