Brain Metastases

Hi,

My dad has metastic melanoma which has spread to his brain. He is currently in a nursing home and being well looked after.
We have had a few unsettling weeks with dads behaviour and was just wondering if anyone had dealt with similar issues? Some days he is hyper and manic, another very confused but happy then changes to low mood and angry/agitated. Hia general health isn't too bad, has swollen feet and legs and sounds chesty but doctor says chest is clear.
Dad is palliative care now.
It is becoming emotionally hard to see his erratic behaviour. Not sure if due to deterioration with his brain tumour, scan showed these were bleeding metastases.
Any advice is much appreciated

Thank you

Nicki

  • Hello Nicki,

I'm sorry to hear about your dad's diagnosis and the challenges you're facing as his caregiver. It's possible that his behaviour is related to the progression of his brain tumour and the bleeding metastases. However, it's important to discuss any concerns with his medical team, as they may be able to provide insight and offer solutions to manage his symptoms.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that our team of nurses would be happy to chat with you if you feel that talking with someone with a medical background over the phone might help. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on this freephone 0808 800 4040.

Remember to take care of yourself while you go through this. It's important to prioritise your own physical and emotional well-being, as caring for a loved one can be physically and emotionally taxing. There is also this page Family, friends and caregivers from our website that offers some tips for carers.

I hope this helps a little.

With best wishes to you and your dad,
