Mum might have breast cancer.

Hey,

My mum found a lump around 4 weeks ago on her breast. She went for the mammogram and biopsy on Thursday. They said to start with that they would call her with results however shortly after her scans they took her into a private room with a macmillan nurse. They asked how she was feeling, and then advised her to prepare for bad news as they were extremely concerned. They've made her an app on the 16th of May and asked her to take someone for support.

Can they tell from the scan if it is cancer or not? My mum is terrified now and has prepared for the worst but I know the 16th is going to seem like a long wait away.

Trying to stay strong and possitive to support her.

  • Hi Sophie,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear about your mum.

I lost my mum to secondary breast cancer, which had spread to her bones, brain, lungs and liver. Some years later, I was diagnosed. I have been in the same position as your mum on three sepaarate occasions. On the first, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Six months later I found a larger lump in the other breast. My consultant was sure that it was cancer, but fortunately, a biopsy found that it was benign. A year after my first diagnosis, I found a lump in my original breast and wasn't so lucky. It is now 13 years since I had these two cancers, and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.

Fortunately, treatments have advanced dramatically in the past few years. There was just no comparison between the experiences which mum and I had. Waiting for results is always one of the hardest parts of our cancer journeys. It becomes easier to deal with once you know exactly what you are dealing with - the unknown is a very scary place.

It is hard to be strong and positive for her, but your support will be invaluable. Please keep in touch and let us know how she gets on. We are always here for both of you.

I shall be thinking of you on 16th.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Sophie

Sorry to hear about your mum

This is exactly what happen to me first time when I went to have scan and biopsy at the same time , shortly after I had to go and see the doctor , he told me it was cancer , but still need to wait for biopsy result, than I had to go into other room to meet breast cancer nurse.

Waited for another 2 weeks to be called again for biopsy result and treatment plan , I'm due to have a second cycle of chemo next week
