Small bowel obstruction

I've just found out my mum is being admitted to hospital due to a small bowel obstruction. It was expected as she'd not been well over the last few days.

I've been reading up on this & what might happen next which is quite reassuring, hopefully the situation can be sorted & another treatment option explored to help her feel better.

Cancer really is an up and down thing which affects not only the person with the disease but everyone around them. I never realised this until now which is a massive reality check.

  • Hello Di

I just wanted to check in and ask how your Mum is and how you're managing as well.

It's often a worrying time when a loved one is admitted to the hospital with complications related to their diagnosis. Hopefully the team has been able to make your Mum more comfortable and give you some reassurance about the next steps.

Sending you both my best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn,

Very kind of you to reply to my message.

The latest I know is my mum is comfortable so hopefully things stay that way while the doctors decide what to do. I'm taking things one day at a time; have had my moments but I have faith in the NHS & doctors so am reassured things will be sorted out.

  • Hello Di

I'm glad to hear that your Mum is comfortable. Will keep my fingers crossed that this continues. It's good to hear that you're taking things a day at a time. It's a sensible approach to a stressful time.

    Best wishes,

  • The latest news isn't that good. The cancer is pressing on my mum's bowel which is what's blocking it. The doctors are optimistic they can get things moving again and give her a few more months, if not then the end will come sooner than I was hoping.

I'm planning to visit her at the hospital tomorrow. She's taken the news well which is reassuring to me.

I appreciate everyone's good wishes and support.
