Hi all,
My mom was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer at the end of 2019, she went through a double mastectomy and chemotherapy. She was declared cured.
Despite regular check-ups and scans, it reoccurred and became metastasis at the start of 2022. My mom has been on chemotherapy since then, every other week, her body reacts to 3 to 4 cycles of every drug and then cancer takes over. She had pleurodesis, a couple of times and was critical in hospital mid-last year, later got TB and now Ascites, she was punctured last week and 3 litres of fluid was taken out after being rushed to emergency.
She is a very tough woman, not once has she complained or cribbed about in the last three years now she is starting to give up as he body is not supporting her. She is unable to eat, she suffers from pain and breathing issues. She is a very positive lady and the strength of our family, she has touched several people, at least 100 of them, and anyone that came to her for help she always every one out of her way.
She is very innocent and she doesn't know that it's a terminal illness, she thinks she is getting treatment for a cure but she is not seeing the light. We are not sure what to say either and honestly don't have the courage to tell her and we don't even want to accept that it's. Hoping for some miracle that would turn things around as I see and hear people living with metastasis.
In the last two months, the spread has been aggressive and changed to chemo + Pembrolizumab.
How do you prepare them for what to come next and how do you know what to expect next?
How do you make their time quality and memorable for everyone? please share anything that you can that would help support this amazing woman that god knows why she needs to endure this pain.
