Thyroid cancer - Lenvatinib

Good afternoon,

I was wondering if anyone was able to share their experiences of dealing with Lenvatinib.

My partner was diagnosed with thyroid cancer 6 months ago, she had surgery to remove her thyroid and was given 6 weeks to recover before being given radiotherapy. The initial diagnosis was pretty hopeful along with the surgery being successful.

After the 6 week recovery they discovered that the cancer had mutated from follicular into metastatic/anaplastic and spread to her lungs, she's currently on Lenvatinib (max dose) and has been since September.

Recent CT scans have shown the treatment to be working as the cancer overal has shrunk. Although the side effects are becoming harder to manage.

I guess my question is, has anyone been through this situation and do they have any advice?

  • Hello Truman90

I'm sorry ot hear about your partner's diagnosis and that she's struggling with the side effects of her treatment.

We do have some information about lenvatinib on our website and I've had a look through the forum to see if I can find any posts where this is mentioned. Unfortunately the only posts I can find are a few years old and are from members who were being treated for other types of cancer. Hopefully if there is anyone here who is having this treatment for thyroid cancer they will post to share their experiences with you.

You may want to have a look at the website for Butterfly and also the British Thyroid Foundation. It may be that you're able to connect with others who have used this medication via one of their support services.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm (excluding bank holidays). I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support they can.

    Best wishes,
