Mum diagnosed with stomach line cancer

Hello,

I'm 25 and live with my mum. We took her to a&e after she complained of abdominal pain cramp like symptoms that turned into vomiting and unable to eat. Was sent away from gp and a&e numerous times before symptoms reached stage of bad cramps and vomiting. To eventually them realising it was a blocked bowel. They put a tube down her throat to clear fluid before doing surgery to get a full biopsy and adding a colostomy bag to her.
They have now confirmed diagnoses of deposits of cancerous cells in her stomach lining. And awaiting a histology report before they pass her onto a oncologist who will tell us the next steps.
I was just wondering anyone knew from their own experience if my mum has a chance of prolonging her life with treatment, or is a obstructed bowel and ascites a sign she doesn't have long left and treatment won't do much?
I know I should wait for professionals but from our experience I'm scared they are waiting to long to act.

Any information would be appreciated and I hope who ever reads this is okay as I know from personal experience I wouldn't ever find myself on here if I wasn't experiencing something personal myself.
stay blessed everyone

  • Hello AntLiverpool

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis. Undoubtedly this will be a difficult time for you all and it's understandable that you have questions about what the future holds.

It's impossible for us to say with any certainty what the Oncologist will say at the appointment. There will be many factors taken into consideration before discussing what treatment or management options may be available for your Mum.

We know that this period of waiting for information and answers can be hard for many people. It can help to talk to someone and I wonder if you might find it useful to chat with one of our nurses ahead of your Mum's next appointment. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support they can, along with helping you think about any questions you may want to ask the Oncologist. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you have some answers soon. Keep in touch and let us know how you're all doing.

    Best wishes,
