Mums just been diagnosed with Stage 2 Papillary squamous

I'm numb afraid angry and can't believe that my mum has been diagnosed with Stage 2 Papillary squamous cell carcinoma they told us it was just pre cancer cells before.. A few days before so we were absolutely devastated today to be told its actually stage 2. They had to send the biopsy somewhere else to get a second opinion. I can't imagine my life without my mum, how likely is she able to survive this with 30 rounds of radiotherapy? I feel like my whole world has been tipped upside down I can't think straight. Please can someone reply

  • Hello Unicorndreams

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis. Understandably after the repeated biopsies that she's had the long wait for results, it's difficult to finally hear that she does indeed have cancer.

We have a number of members here on the forum who have been through treatment for differing types of nasal, paranasal and oral cancers. Some of them have successfully been treated with radiotherapy and hopefully you'll have some responses from those who have experience soon.

In the meantime I'd encourage you to give our team of nurses a call next week to talk things through with them. I know they will be happy to give you any information, advice, and support they can ahead of your Mum starting treatment. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Try not to look too far ahead to the future as this will leave you feeling more worried. Instead, take things a day at a time and concentrate on supporting your Mum to get through the next few months.

Keep in touch and let us know how you're both getting on.

    Best wishes,
