My lovely Dad

My Dad has been I'll since August. They have now discovered a mass on his lower left lung. However the lung is not causing him any problems. It is other areas of the body where we are more concerned from a general health poin of view. I will list all of his symptoms.

Chronic costapation prescribed drinks as a bowel softner in Sept not working

Anal fissure which is incredibly painful due to straining

3 Bulging discs at base oif spine seeing an osteopath to help

Chronic Insomnia prescribed a anti depressant sedative - not having desired affect. Causing a huge change in his mood due to lack of sleep

No appetite due to fear of having to go to the toilet

Complete change in personality. Going from a man who went out everyday, all be it to the supermarket to someone who is to weak to leave the house

I am scared that once my Dads tests are completed he has over the next week to have a PET scan, MRI, Bone density scan, X-ray and a respiratory test. He will not be well enough to receive treatment.

Can you advise how I can get my Dad help with the rpghing listed above please? My Dad is a great ma, loves his family and we love him. Please help.

  • Hello Gez06 and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

Your poor dad has been going through so much - he must be truly exhausted by it all. I hope that things get better for him and that he is soon well enough to receive treatment. I definitely think you should mention all these symptoms you have listed to his doctor or medical team and insist that they are really affecting his quality of life. It is important I think that the insomnia, constipation and lack of appetite improve so I hope that you manage to discuss this with someone and that they give your dad the help he needs to feel better.

If you want to talk things through with someone, feel free to give our cancer nurses a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
