After tongue cancer - struggling to be intimate

Hello
My husband has had tongue cancer treatment and six weeks of radiotherapy and 2 rounds of chemotherapy. His last radiotherapy was on the 19th august 2022. I however am suffering with shingles and Bell’s palsy for the past 8 weeks. I’m so reluctant to kiss him or have sex. I love my husband but finding it difficult to get close with him. I’m always angry with him and I hate the way I treat him. What can I do please?

  • Welcome to the forum Gurds although I'm sorry for the reason you're joining us.

It sounds like you've both had a very tough time lately so try not to be too hard on yourself for how you're feeling as it's completely understandable why you are finding it difficult to be close with your husband at the moment. I'm not sure from your post if you've tried to discuss this with him, but if not, try and see if you can find a way to open up to him about this, so you can work through this together.

I hope these pages we have about sex and cancer for partners and your sex life with mouth cancer will prove to be useful but if you'd prefer to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, they're just a phone call away on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They will do all they can to help and support you at this time.

Hopefully some of our members who have encountered similar issues in their relationships will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon as well.

    Kind regards,
