Husband suffering, anyone had stent fitted for stomach ca?

In February my husband was diagnosed with stomach cancer and offered only palliative treatment. After collapsing which resulted in him being taken to hospital and given the diagnosis he was managing well and life continued more or less normal . Then in June I was diagnosed with breast cancer and in July had a mastectomy and am on hormone treatment. I am sure that I was too concerned about my husbands cancer to worry about mine and I have recovered well and generally feel well.
In August my husband had radiotherapy to try and shrink the tumour. The side effects were awful and he couldn't eat and lost a lot of weight. A couple of weeks after the radiotherapy he recovered and we went out walking even went to a restaurant. Life seemed to return to normal. This only lasted two weeks and now he is really struggling to eat and has lost so much weight and although not in pain he is extremely uncomfortable . He was told by a doctor that he could have a stent inserted and he is very keen to have this but I have read about the procedure and it seems that it is really a last resort and the result is not encouraging. I am so worried. I feel so helpless and can't seem to find any way to help him. Has any one had any experience of having a stent inserted to bypass the blockage.

  • Hello Lottiesock and a big welcome to our forum,

I am so sorry to hear about your husband and that he is really struggling to eat and has lost so much weight. It must be a rather worrying time for you as you are currently considering your options like having a stent fitted. There is information on our website on stents for stomach cancer which I hope you will find useful and hopefully other members of the forum who have had a stent inserted in similar circumstances will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 if you would like to talk things through with them or ask them any questions about the stent - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you manage to find all the information you need to make the best possible decision for your husband.

    Best wishes,
