Help please

Hey all,

Bit of a weird question but any help would be much appreciated. My wife (39) was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer about 3 years ago. Been through 3 years of hell and now been told there's nothing left to do and she's looking at a few months. Which is gutting but not a surprise.

Like anyone in this situation we've been looking at early stage research, anything which shows a glimpse of making a difference, and have stumbled upon a really promising treatment for her type of cancer. What's more, the key drug is already widely used for less serious conditions like IBS or rheumatoid arthritis and with minimal side effects. However, because it doesn't yet fit the tick boxes of the NHS, despite the fact that there's nothing to lose, nobody will prescribe this fairly standard, largely harmless NHS treatment.

My question is; does anybody know of anywhere or anyone who might be able and willing to prescribe this treatment outside of traditionally allocated use? I've heard rumours of an oncology centre in London? It just seems insane that, given my wife's dire predicament (death in 3 months or so anyway!), we can't try a basic, widely used NHS treatment because it doesn't exactly fit the flow chart (NB its increasingly being repurposed for cancer research).

Any thoughts or suggestions anybody has would be much appreciated!

cheers

Peter
