Medication Review

Someone I help care for has been told they have to have a medication review. Usually GP does this. But this time it has been booked in with a practice pharmacist. Practice never had pharmacist before. Has anyone else had a medication review with a practice pharmacist? How might it differ from a review with the GP?

  • I think Rose that many surgeries now use practice managers, nurses and pharmacists to help the GPS deal with other matters, freeing up more time. Carol x

  • Hi Carol, that sounds okay. I was hoping it wasn't a cost-cutting exercise. It's been so heart-breaking having options like surgery ruled out because of other conditions, the cynic in me is hoping someone doesn't decide some of the prescribed meds are a waste of money too. I think I've been thrown because (co-incidentally?) I got a letter from the hospital addressed to me yesterday morning marked Medications and then Results Review stating I was recommended not to have a particular medication. It didn't name my GP which was odd. Love Rose xx

looking at my letter again it's come from an Immunology consultant not a pharmacist, so  medication review with practice pharmacist is, hopefully, as you say and just helping take load off GP. Thanks for calming me down again.

  • That's OK Rose, sometimes we think the worst when really it's just a new way of doing things.  Everyone at my surgery complained about having to do an e consultation with them first, I've found if you're needing help it's easier than being number 62 in the queue, people don't like change!  Xx
