Polycythemia Vera

My mother was diagnosed with PV with a Jak2 mutation last year and the doctors told us she is low risk and everything should be under control. But she is having new symptoms all the time. Her eyes are swelling up, she gets tired easily. She is unable to even leave her job yet, because we need the money. I am feeling very stressed out, and I don't think I have slept properly in a long long time. I need help.

  • Hi Lithonya_,

I'm sorry to hear about how poorly your mother feels and how stressful this situation is for you both.

I looked and found a page on our website which covers coping with polycythaemia vera and organisations that offer help and support like MPN Voice.

It's important that you take care of yourself, too. Talking things over with someone who can relate usually helps so I hope one of our members with experience in caring for a loved one with cancer will come along shortly to chat with you and offer support. Until they do, there's another page from our website I wanted to share with you which might help, called Family, friends and caregivers.

Stay strong Lithonya_ and please remember we're always here if you need a chat.

    Best wishes,

    Renata, Cancer Chat Moderator
