Family member has cancer

A couple of months ago, my father was diagnosed with cancer and we were told that if he had a back operation and chemo, he would love a pretty normal life. We have now been told by the GP that the consultant is lying to us and he only has 6 months. I am a bit unsure of how to process this to start with and then I have exam at the end of next month which I'm not even sure I should sit or whether it will affect my studying. Any help is greatly appreciated

  • Welcome to the forum Anonymous11 although I'm very sorry to hear about your father and the conflicting information you've been given about his diagnosis.

This must be a very confusing and stressful time for you all but if you haven't done so already, do try and speak with your father's GP and consultant again to find out why the information you've been given is so different. You could try getting a second opinion as well.

Hopefully some of our members will be along soon to offer you their support and advice but if you'd like to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses, they are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope you're able to get some answers soon and wish you and your family all the very best on this journey.

    Kind regards,
