Has anyone had poorly differentiated cells in lymph nodes?

Hi again,

My FIL has had a partial gastrectomy during which 10 out of 20 nodes had cancer.  He is not fit enough for chemotherapy..

I spoke to his surgeon and the cells in his lymph nodes were poorly differentiated.  I know these are more aggressive.

Has anyone else had similar?  Given he can't have any other treatment we are wondering  how long this will take to spread.

Any insights will be welcome.

Thanks

  • I'm really sorry to hear your FIL is unable to have any other treatment Gigi.

I know this must be very difficult but our community are here for you and hopefully some of our members who have been in this position will be along soon to offer you their support and advice.

In the meantime, if you'd like to discuss this in more detail with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi

I'm so sorry that your father in law is in this situation  & my heart goes out to him & all the family. I can only tell you about the situation I experienced with my husband. This may not proove to be the case with your father in law as every person responds to cancer in their own unique way. My husband had an aggressive cancer with poorly differentiated cells that had spread to various lymph nodes around his body. After his chemotherapy stopped working, he lived for approximately 3 months. During that period he started sleeping more & disengaging from his family, not purposefully,  it was as though his body was slowly shutting down. He was in a certain amount of pain but on the whole it was managed  by increasing his pain relief. As I stated before, your father in law may have a totally different experience. I hope this helps a little & I am so very sorry that this is happening to  you all.

  • Thanks so much for your reply and I'm very sorry you also had to go through this.  We knew this would happen but we just don't know when.

Just trying to make the best of the time left .

Sometimes you just don't know if all this is really happening so it's reassuring to hear from others.

Please take care and thanks again x
