Can anyone help

My mums 2 years on nhs immunotherapy is due to end in November, her tumour on her lung has shrunk by 2.4cm and now at 3cm. Yes it's taken almost 2 years for the result but my mum has very little side effects and responding well to the treatment. I feel nhs are more down to cost rather than "clinical trial was only done for 2 years". Has anyone went private afterwards. We're all devastated as a family including my mum as she feels it's the end of the road. Is there anywhere we can look into? It's so hard to keep her spirits up as she feels she has came so far and it won't be an option again under nhs.

  • Hello Allanc20,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

I sorry to hear how your mum and the rest of your family are feeling. It's important that you talk to and support each other. It is a good idea to talk to your mum's Consultant to establish what happens next and what further treatment he recommends. You can raise the question about whether it is possible for her to continue to have the treatment privately and what that would entail. They should be able to help you make the transition from NHS to private if it is possible to do so.  There's some information on other ways to access treatment here which might be helpful.

    I hope this helps,
