Is this how it ends?

Hiya

My mum has stage 4 lung cancer mets to bone..she returned from hospice as theres nothing they can do for her. Shes bedbound, stage 4 bedsore, lots of pain. Mum was in agony even with all her abstral and oxynorm orally. In the end she was put on a driver 5 days ago. Shes now unable to speak eat or drink. She wakes up every couple of hours groaning but cant say a word its so distressing so we call the district nurses to come and inject her with pain relief and sedatives.. it is horrific to say the least. 7 days ago they said mum would go very soon ..i cant help but wonder if they got it wrong...just like they got everything else wrong..shes still fighting and keeps waking up..we have had to increase the syringe driver dose each day..it feels almost like we are forcing her to die which is traumatising...the guilt is overwhelming .. last night the nurse gave her a new concoction and she slept finally for about 12 hours...i wanted to know..has anyone else experienced someone able to withstand so much pain relief? Why is she not resting?

Please help

  • Hi Hannah,

I just saw you mention on your other discussion that your mum passed away on Sunday morning.

I'm so sorry for your loss but I'm glad you were able to share her last moments and that she had a peaceful passing.

I know the last 7 days have been really tough but I'm sure your mum appreciated everything you did to make her comfortable and took strength, and comfort, from knowing you were nearby.

I'm sure our members will offer their support and condolences to you soon but in the meantime, I just wanted to let you know we're thinking of you and that our thoughts are with you at this time.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
