Is this the beginning of the road to the end?

My mum has had 6 cycles of chemo for ovarian cancer. Last week she had another ct scan. This week her dostor phoned with not so good news. Debulking surgery is out of the question for a few reasons. Firstly they cannot guarantee to get it all out because it is just too much. Secondly it has unfortunately spread to her spleen and bowel, and thirdly she's not in a good enough physical state. The next plan is one, maybe two more cycles of carboplatin, then a maintenance drug. Then I guess it's just wait. I knew from the start that her treatment was never aimed at being curative, but to know for sure now that it has affected other organs just makes it more real. I guess this is the start of the stroll towards the end.

  • Hello Morwena

I'm so sorry to hear that your Mum's recent scan results didn't bring good news. It's understandable that you're likely to be feeling a whole range of emotions right now as she faces the uncertainty of how well the maintenance drug will work for her. I hope that you both have lots of support around you.
