Stomach cancer, gastrectomy, found in lymph nodes. Anyone?

Hi there,

My FIL recently had a partial gastrectomy and 20 lymph nodes removed.  Cancer was found in 10.

He has not had any other treatment as he is not strong enough.  He has had a stroke.  He has a jej feeding tube which I think will be permanent due to cognitive decline.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation where they can't get mop up chemo and the cancer has reoccurred?

We have small children and now granda living with us. We want to move to a bigger house to accommodate him but our surgeon said not to be too hasty.

He also said the cancer may return in the next year or two.

We are very realistic about how this will end but have no idea of time lines.

We would be grateful to know of anyone else in similar position before we make big decisions for or kids, work and granda.

Thanks for reading

  • Hi Gigi11,

This sounds like a difficult situation and I can of course certainly understand you wanting to find out more about what to expect. I'm sure you have already discussed this with the specialist, but they will be best placed to advise on what may happen and how likely certain things are, so do keep speaking to them.

Meanwhile if others here have similar experience to share then hopefully they'll be along soon.

I hope you're getting on OK and that the next steps go well in terms of any decisions you make.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
