trust in doctors

Feeling frustrated with the doctor's answers and lack of suggestions for treatment ideas.

Going to get second opinion.

e.g. just being told 'surgery not an option' is not enough - need to understand why not, will another doctor say it could be an option? from articles, i've read there is a lack of consensus amongst the experts about treatment options in this particular area.

So what do others thing -  do you trust your doctors to do the best thing for you - or do you get second opinions or research treatments yourself?

  • I understand your frustration. I have never met my oncologist, she refuses to see me face to face. She said I chose this but I was in such a state of shock after diagnosis I dont remember.

When she phones she is very brusque and shows no empathy at all. Then she sends letters saying it was lovely to speak to you. This is just a standard template. I would advise you to speak to your specialist nurse if you have been given one.  You need answers.

I have thought of asking to change oncologist but have felt to ill to go through with it. Every letter she sends tells me cancer will return. She was also reluctant to treat me said would give benfit of doubt. Although the first consultant said tumour was not curable, but treatable.

I really hope you get the treatment you need.
