Contracting Coronavirus during FLOT Chemo

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has had the misfortune to contract coronavirus whilst undergoing chemo, particularly FLOT chemo. My mum is going through FLOT at the moment (she had 4 sessions in autumn, had the surgery in January, and is now having her last four sessions - last week, she had her second session of these last four), and whilst we are doing our best to stay safe, we have had some covid scares over the last few weeks, so I just wanted to reach out to anyone who could share what their experience was of dealing with covid and chemo at the same time.

  • Hi,

Yes I unfortunately got covid while having my Chemo my son came home from school with it , I'm having FEC-T for breast Cancer.

I was beside myself with worry when I got it, it was in between my 3rd cycle, I straight away rang my GP, they sent out this thing that went on my Finger, I had to download an app and it was like a vitual ward. This thing kept an eye on my oxygen levels, I would record it on the app and they would monitor it. I was also keeping an eye on my temperature.  I rang my Chemo team and they arrange for me to go into hospital and have an anti body drip, this is a new covid treatment that stops the Covid Bug attacking your healthy Cells.

I have to me honest and say that I wasn't effected to badly from it, I don't think any worse than I would normally. I've had my jabs and booster which helped a lot.
     I hope I have helped

Im sorry your mum is poorly, such a worrying time for you, I wish her well.

    Love Sarah

  • Hi Sarah,

Thanks for telling me about your experience, that's really helpful. It's so insightful to hear from someone who's been through it themselves - the more we know about how covid can affect someone with cancer, the better. It then feels like we can be more prepared going through chemo while covid is still around!

I sincerely hope the remainder of your treatment goes well, lots of love.

    Thanks,

    Jeeves
