Prostatectomy not carried out

My Dad is 87 and was admitted on Monday this week for a partial prostatectomy and a bladder scrape, we've just been told today he had biopsy's taken from bladder but they did not do the prostate bit and we will be informed why at a follow up appointment in a few weeks.  He's still in hospital having been unable to wee since the operation/procedure and has been re catheterised, which they say he will have a couple of week.  He was first diagnosed with prostate cancer 19 years ago and had radiotherapy at the time, he's recently been weeing a lot of blood, hence the new treatment.  He tells us nothing and the hospital aren't helping.. any thoughts ? • Hello Lynndsafc

I'm sorry to hear that your Dad is currently in hospital and that the planned procedures didn't go ahead. It's understandable that you have questions and concerns.

It's not possible for me to say why this may have been. Hopefully, at the follow-up appointment, the team will be able to give you a clear picture of why things changed and what was found during the procedure.

We know that waiting for tests and results can be a difficult time for many people. Sometimes it can help to talk things through with someone and I wonder I you might find it useful to chat with one of our nurses ahead of your Dad's next appointment. If you'd like to chat with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that things improve for your Dad soon and that the team is able to give you some answers.

    Best wishes,
