Ukrainian refugee cancer patient

Hello I’m writing on behalf of my sister Olena who is came visit me in Doncaster on 14th  of February , but unfortunately the war is started in Ukraine shortly after her arrival , now she can’t back home to Ukraine. My sister is cancer patient, she had double mastectomy last year and now she have a suspicion on metastasis in her liver. She have her chemotherapy treatment in tablets for one month however she need constant weekly monitoring of her blood white cells and platelets count because it’s dropping to critical levels in the past. My sister is also HIV positive and diagnosed with liver cirrhosis.

Please can you get help for her to be seeing by oncologist ASAP to keep her health under monitoring in UK while she can’t go back to Ukraine

I hope my message will find you quickly and I will wait for your response

  • Hi,

My advice would be to register your sister as soon as you can - as a temporary resident with your own GP using your address. I think in the current situation you will find people will want to help.

I wish you both the best of luck.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Ukrainian although I'm very sorry to hear about your sister's situation. I can't begin to imagine how tough this must be for the both of you at the moment.

You can find out more about cancer treatment for overseas visitors on our website but you could also try speaking to your own doctor and explaining what has happened to see if they can offer you and your sister any help or guidance.

Citizen's Advice may be able to offer you information and advice as well but if you haven't done so already, it may be worth contacting the Embassy of the Ukraine in London.

I hope this helps and that you and your sister and are able to get this resolved quickly.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
