Sister has secondary breast cancer and now confined to bed

Hi

My sister was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer last May. We were told at the time she had weeks/ possibly months to live and she continues to battle on. The cancer had spread to her bones and she is confined to bed. I am her next of kin and it's been a real rollercoaster of emotions. Would be great to receive any words of wisdom x

  • Hello Rainbowcb

I'm sorry to hear about your Sister's diagnosis. I don't doubt that the past 10 months have been a real rollercoaster for you both.

Have you had any support since her diagnosis? It's so important to care for yourself in all of this. We have some information on our website that you may find helpful but I'd really encourage you to talk to someone about how you're feeling about the whole situation. You may want to consider getting in touch with your local Maggie's centre or alternatively you can call our nurses. I'm sure they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support that they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

You have so much uncertainty, responsibility, and emotion to carry at the moment Rainbowcb. Keep in touch here on the forum if it helps to have somewhere safe to offload how you're feeling and to talk with others who understand about caring for a loved one with cancer.

Sending you both my best wishes,
