26 Year Old Grade 2 Brain Tumour

Hello,

My partner had a seizure last October and was told in December after having MRI scans that he has a low grade glioma, grade 2. We were told in January that it was completely operable and that he will have all of it removed due to its size and accessibility.

we saw the neurosurgeon yesterday and he shocked us a bit because he originally made us believe that after surgery we could resume life and it would not be life threatening. Yesterday he told surgery will enable him to live 10-14 years. We are now in shock because we did not have any idea that even after a successful surgery he will still die eventually.

Can anyone shed any light on it? He is 26, no health issues other than this. Does not smoke or drink. Is the surgeon right? Is it as black and white as 10-14 years? How does the tumour kill yoy even when it's removed completely?

  • Welcome to the forum LewisH although I'm sorry about your partner's glioma and the potential life expectancy you have been told they may have after they've had surgery.

I know this must be a lot to take in but our community are here for you and I'm sure our members who have been in this position will share their experiences with you soon.

In the meantime, if you'd like to discuss this in more detail with one of our cancer nurses, they're just a phone call away on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. The Brain Tumour Charity may be able to offer more insight and advice to you as well.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but I hope my reply has helped somewhat and that your partner's surgery goes well.

    Kind regards,
