Merkel cell carcinoma metastasis Avelumab treatment

Obviously we are aware that Merkel cell carcimona is a rare from of skin cancer tht is hgihly agressive. My 61 year old dad was diagnosed in july 2021 with MCC, BCC AND SCC. He had 30 rounds of radiotherapy and a large tumor removed from his neck. Recenlty he started complaining of back ache and a few other new symptoms so we got him in to see his team asap. They decided to admit him and run further tests to see what was going on. Unfortunalty the cancer has now spread and he starts radiotherapy again today with immunotherapy (Avelumab) starting straight after. We are awre that he is only allowed this treatment for 2 years but was hoping to connect with someone with MCC or someone who is taking Avelumab.

  • I'm sorry to hear your dad's cancer has spread Kels. This must have been tough news to receive but I'm glad to hear his treatment is underway.

You can find out more about Avelumab on our website but if you have any questions then you're welcome to get in touch with our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to help.

I really hope the information and advice you've been receiving from our members on other discussions has been helping but if you'd like to try and connect with more people with MCC it may be worth checking out the Neuroendocrine Cancer UK and Melanoma UK online communities.

Wishing your dad all the best with his radiotherapy and immunotherapy Kels.

    Kind regards,
