After chemo?

My dad was diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer in October. He started Capox in November but it did nit work. He then had radiation for a spinal lesion before immediately starting Irinotecan. He had an extreme reaction, ending up with neutropaenic sepsis - we nearly lost him on Monday. He's in recovery now but oncologist says no more chemo. So I'm not sure what happens next. Anyone had any treatment when chemo is no longer an option? Immunotherapy? Targeted drugs?

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Damncword although I'm so sorry about the reaction your dad had to Irinotecan. That must have been very scary but I'm really glad to hear he's pulled through and is in recovery.

Treatment depends on the individual and their particular circumstances but you can get a general idea of other treatment options for advanced bowel cancer on our website. Our team of cancer nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m if you'd like to discuss your dad's situation with them as well.

I'm sure some of our members will share their experiences with you soon but in the meantime we're thinking of you and wishing your dad all the best with the next part of his treatment.

    Kind regards,
