Dad starting chemo next week, any advice?

Hi, how is everyone doing? My dad has throat cancer and is starting chemotherapy this week, any advice would be appreciated xxx

  • Hi sorry to hear but chemo isn't as bad as it sounds, just take a few snacks and something to read and drink,he will be fine you just have to try and think positive and stay strong for him.I've had a year of chemo so I do understand x

  • Ho sorry to read about your dad.

Different chemos have different side effects when he goes in the staff will go through everything with him. They also have a 24 hour contact number for any concerns and no question is silly.

He will likely be given some meds to take home ie ant sickness etc but make sure he gets some imodium and laxative as either and both can be experienced.

Tell him to listen to his body when he starts and if he feels like doing nothing and resting then he must. I went through chemo last year and had days where I couldn't do anything.

Keep up the fluids and if he struggles with food but finds a couple of things he can eat then go with it.

He will likely have good days and bad I know I did so take what ever help there is.

All the best to you both

    Louise xx
