My Sister has found she has stomach cancer

Hello,

I am Bek, I lost our parernts young and I am close to my only sister who has stage 3 stomach cancer, Iam british citizen, but she is not, she lives in one of those post soviet union countries where medical service is appoling and not advanced.

She has got her Phd doctoral on the 5th January, and then next week she found out she has stomach cancer. She has two sons who are student and her husband is not supportive. Her monthly salary is around 250 pounds which is nothing, me and my other brothers have spent lots of money.

I am myself on isolation at home for 10 days and dont earn that much, I feel guilty that I cant help her much. She is so worried and terrified.

Does anyone go through this stomach cancer? I feel like my whole world collapsed and changed. Does anyone know how non eu and not british citizens can go for treatment in England?

I would really appriacite for any information,

Thanks, Bek.

  • Hi Bek,

I'm sorry to hear about the situation with your sister - I can imagine this must be incredibly difficult, especially with the distance. I'm sure she knows you are there to support her, even if you can't be nearby all the time - so try if you can not to feel guilty to not be able to do more.

I'm not sure if or how it's possible for those internationally to get treatment in the UK. There is a little more information on this on the NHS website and also the Citizens Advice website. If you'd like to know more, you could post in the 'Ask the Nurses' section of this forum, and you'll receive a reply from one of our nurses.

Meanwhile hopefully you'll receive further replies from others on the forum soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Thanks Ben for replying, it means a lot to me, I am funding her treatment at the moment from my own own, hopefully I will be able to do and I might look into bringing here for privet treatment, but she got covid just before seeing her doctor, so it sucks. Best, Bek
