Gastrectomy on going problem

My wife had a gastrectomy in 2018 and she has been having the usual problems with dumping syndrome, bile problems, and certain food intolerances. Overall it has not been too bad of a recovery.

But lately, she has been suffering from belly cramps and nausea in the upper part, roughly where the stomach was, when eating a meal with meat but can eat cheese ok, without nausea. Also got muscle ache and flu-like symptoms and muscle pain without coughing or a runny blocked/nose.

Anybody else experienced this?

  • Hello freeflow,

I am pleased to hear that your wife had a rather successful recovery following her gastrectomy in 2018. It's now been four years since her surgery and I am sorry to hear that she has suffered from belly cramps and nausea when eating certain foods as well as these muscle aches and flu-like symptoms you describe. I hope that you will hear from other members of the forum who have had a similar experience and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

It might be worth mentioning these symptoms to your wife's GP or specialist who will be in the best position to tell you more about what could be causing this and who will hopefully have some suggestions to improve the nausea and alleviate these issues.

I hope that this ongoing problem gets sorted quickly once you have spoken to a medical expert as it must be rather troublesome for her.

    Best wishes,
