Tonsill cancer recovery

Hi , my name is Susan. My husband had stage 2 tonsill cancer which he received 30 sessions of radiotherapy. He is still in a whole lot of pain on swallowing and is still on a lot of morphine. His oncologist says this is beyond unusual

his ct scan and examination were all ok, but I'm wondering if there is maybe something else going on that a pet scan might show. My husband is 62 and has always had a high pain threshold.... don't know what to do..

many thanks

  • Hello Susan

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis and that he's still dealing with a great deal of pain following his treatment.

You don't mention when he finished the radiotherapy. I know from reading posts here on the forum that lots of our members who have had treatment for tonsil/throat/oral cancers have had side effects for quite some months afterward. You might find it helpful to have a look at this thread and post a message there. They're a friendly and supportive group and I'm sure will offer any advice that they can.

Whilst it's reassuring that your husband's CT scan and examination were OK it's understandable that you're feeling anxious and worried. If you'd like to chat things through with one of our team ofnurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support that they can.

I do hope that things settle and start to improve for him soon.

    Best wishes,
