Myelofibrosis and confusion and sleepiness

My Dad has had this condition for around 4 years now and during the last 2 had been my mum's principle carer as I live abroad. Sadly Mum died just before Christmas and although he seems to be coping in many ways he seems extremely forgetful, cannot make decisions and falls asleep at the drop of a hat! Can I attribute this to grief or his illness..or a bit of both?

  • Hello Clarebear2402

I'm so sorry to hear that your Mum passed away just before Christmas and that since you now have some additional concerns about your Dad's health. It's obviously a very difficult time for you both and understandable that your Dad may be struggling with both the loss of his wife and the loss of his role as a carer.

While it's possible that the symptoms you've described could be part of the grief process and/or attributable to his myelofibrosis, it would probably be a good idea for your Dad to have a check-up with his GP if possible. They will be best placed to arrange any appropriate tests or referrals and hopefully give you both some reassurance.

I do hope that over the coming weeks and months things settle and improve.

    Best wishes,
